- Prioritize Climate Action & Protect Our Watersheds
Commitments:
Make climate considerations part of municipal decision-making — assess the environmental, climate and long-term infrastructure impacts of major decisions.
Deliver on the Township’s Climate Change Action Plan, through community programs and building infrastructure improvements.
Lead by example by reducing municipal emissions, improving energy efficiency and pursuing practical, cost-effective sustainability initiatives.
Plan for climate adaptation by preparing for increased risks from flooding, extreme weather, heat and other climate-related impacts.
Incorporate climate resilience into infrastructure planning, ensuring new and upgraded infrastructure is designed for changing conditions.
Use watershed health to inform growth and land-use decisions, consistent with the Township’s Official Plan and Ontario’s approach to watershed-based planning.
Protect our natural heritage and agricultural lands, recognizing that healthy forests, wetlands, waterways and soils are essential to climate resilience.
Embrace partnerships with conservation authorities, neighbouring municipalities, community organizations and residents to develop practical solutions.
We cannot afford to ignore the environmental impacts of our decisions. We have accomplished a great deal, but there is always more we can do. Our responsibility is to leave future generations with healthy watersheds, resilient infrastructure and a community prepared for a changing climate.
We need to be stewards of the watersheds in Cavan Monaghan to preserve their long term health for future generations.
